Capitol and Capital City History
Completed in 1916, Utah’s Neoclassical Capitol is clad in granite and crowned by a copper dome above a richly decorated rotunda.
Salt Lake City became territorial capital in 1856, replacing Fillmore, because it was the territory’s population, economic, and transportation center.
